ISMAT architecture students show their «urban strategies» in the center of Portimão

Exhibition presents the work of 4th year students of the Integrated Master in Architecture at ISMAT

«Urban strategies in Portimão: terms of territorial development» is the theme of the outdoor exhibition that opened on June 2, at Praça da República (Alameda), in Portimão.

“A square, a street, an intersection, a square, a garden, or a riverside area. Try observing this space that surrounds us and then the photomontage present on the panel. The same location. A before and an after”, could be read in the opening invitation.

The exhibition presents the work of students in the 4th year of the Integrated Masters in Architecture at Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes (MIA.ISMAT), in the academic year 2020-2021, within the scope of the Urban Planning Curricular Unit, with the coordination of Professor Dr. Claudia Gaspar.

The work was developed around the terms of the Territorial Development Glossary, applied to urban intervention strategies in Portimão. According to the teacher, «an urban strategy may not always cause obvious changes in the city's image, however it is certain that it has repercussions at a social, economic, cultural level and in the quality of life of citizens».

«The panels displayed in different strategic places in Portimão, also end up being interventions in the urban space, which contribute to a greater relationship between the citizen and the city», highlights ISMAT.

The exhibition takes place in 10 different places in Portimão, in two exhibition moments: from the 2nd to the 20th of June – points 6 to 10 of the map; June 20th to 30th – map points 1 to 5.
