Aljezur and Vila do Bispo will host the “Sargo da Costa Vicentina Festival”

Between May 20th and 29th

The municipalities of Aljezur and Vila do Bispo will host, between the 20th and 29th of May, the “Festival Sargo da Costa Vicentina”. 

This is an event promoted in partnership with the University of Coimbra, within the scope of the project “VALSARGO – Valorização do Sargo da Costa Vicentina”, in which, for ten days, participating restaurants will present dishes dedicated to Sargo da Costa Vicentina, providing their customers gastronomic experiences such as signature dishes, tastings or cooking workshops.

In addition to the gastronomic experiences, awareness-raising actions will be carried out in schools, such as the lecture “Sargo na Costa Vicentina”, on the 20th of May, aimed at students from the municipalities of Aljezur and Vila do Bispo, and the contest “Eu Vi um Sargo”, which will challenge 1st cycle schools to present works on Sargo da Costa Vicentina.

The official opening of the Festival is scheduled for the 21st of May, with the holding of the Sargo da Costa Vicentina Journeys, at the Lota de Sagres Interpretation Center, at 10:00 am, whose opening session will be chaired by Rute Silva and José Manuel Gonçalves, mayors of Vila do Bispo and Aljezur.

At 10:30 am, Ana Carla Garcia, from the University of Coimbra, will present the project “VALSARGO – Valorização do Sargo da Costa Vicentina”. This was followed by the roundtable “Valorization of Sargo da Costa Vicentina”.

On the 28th of May, at 15:00, the closing session is scheduled at the headquarters of the Associação Pescadores da Arrifana, with the presence of the mayor of Aljezur, the president of Vila do Bispo, and Tiago Verdelhos, of the University of Coimbra, who will give a summary of the initiative and will present the next initiatives of the VALSARGO project. After the session, there will be a tasting of Sargo da Costa Vicentina.
