Silves celebrates the 192nd birthday of João de Deus with an award, music and poetry

The Câmara de Silves will mark the 192nd anniversary of the birth of the poet and pedagogue João de Deus with the delivery of the João de Deus National Literary Prize, music and poetry, on March 8.

According to the Municipality of Silves, among the highlights of the celebrations are the evocative ceremony with the laying of flowers next to the monument in honor of João de Deus (9:30 am), the session for the delivery of the João de Deus National Literary Prize – Poetry 2021 ( 17:00 pm) and the concert “Meu Fado”, performed by Ecos de Coimbra (21:30 pm), both at the Francisco Vargas Mogo auditorium, in SB de Messines.

The initiative, which is highly sponsored by the Presidency of the Republic, coincides with the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Jardim-Escola João de Deus, in São Bartolomeu de Messines, whose students will be protagonists of the performative note “Marafábulas e os bichinhos que conta” .

Also part of the program, which can be found here, the commemorations of the 45th anniversary of the Volunteer Firefighters of SB Messines, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque within the scope of the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of Jardim Escola João de Deus, the Inter Escolas João de Deus Tournament and the reading of poetry by João de Deus, by Cristina Paiva, against the backdrop of the National Pantheon (online activity)

The March 8 program will be preceded by the online activity “John of God for me? Brief comment”, which will present, from today until the 7th, the perspective of several guests on the poet and pedagogue.
