Covid-19: Portugal exceeds 35 million tests carried out

As announced by the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge (INSA)

Portugal surpassed this week the 35 million tests carried out on Covid-19, since the beginning of the pandemic, as announced today by the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge (INSA).

INSA points out that this mark, the 35.021.584 million tests for Covid-19, was reached this Tuesday, February 1, distributed in approximately 19,2 million TAAN/PCR tests and close to 15,9 .35 million Rapid Antigen Tests (TRAg) for professional use. The XNUMX million tests do not include self-tests.

In January, the country recorded a new maximum monthly testing for Covid-19, with around eight million tests carried out, which corresponds to a daily average of more than 257 thousand tests. Of these, approximately 2,4 million were TAAN/PCR and close to 5,6 million were TRAg for professional use.

INSA also recalls that the exceptional and temporary regime for the reimbursement of Rapid Antigen Tests in pharmacies and participating laboratories was extended until February 28, with a view to reinforcing the control of the pandemic.

“The reactivation of the exceptional and temporary TRAg reimbursement scheme aims to contribute to the early detection and isolation of cases, to prevent and mitigate the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on health services and vulnerable populations, as well as to reduce and control the transmission of the infection and monitor the epidemiological evolution of Covid-19», he concludes.

The INSA note also highlights that, according to data from the ECDC – European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (week 3/2022), Portugal was “the sixth country to carry out more tests on Covid-19 in the European Union, for 100 inhabitants, in that week".
