PS/Algarve: «The government of António Costa doubled the number of family health units in the Algarve»

The Socialists say they intend “to take advantage of the PRR's community funds to invest around 39 million euros in strengthening and modernizing the Algarve's primary healthcare network, as well as ensuring the effective construction of the new Central and University Hospital of the Algarve”

The number of family health units set up in the Algarve has doubled in the last six years, stresses the PS/Algarve, in a statement. These data are revealed on the day that Jamila Madeira, head of the list of Algarvian socialists to the Legislative Elections, visited, with the other PS candidates, the health centers of Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António.

Between 2015 and 2021, the Government of the Socialist Party «authorized six times more Family Health Units than the previous PSD Government, approving in the last six years the constitution of 12 new Family Health Units, against only two created by the PSD Government between 2011 and 2015”, stress the Socialists.

In the Algarve, there are 23 Family Health Units, nine of which were approved by the PS governments between 2009 and 2011, two by the right-wing Government until 2015 and 12 were created in the last six years, by the Government of António Costa, they add.

The commitment to the network of primary health care and proximity to citizens and families in the six years of the Socialist Party Government is equally evident when looking at the number of users with a family doctor assigned.

On the other hand, also points out the PS/Algarve, «despite the number of people registered in the Algarve's health centers having increased, in the last six years, the number of users without a family doctor decreased by 21%, from 107089 users without a family doctor. family at the end of 2015, to the current 84276».

Jamila Madeira, current PS deputy and former Deputy Secretary of State and Health, stresses that «in the Algarve today we have more health professionals, more doctors, more nurses, more Family Health Units, more Algarve people with a family doctor" .

The Socialists say they intend “to take advantage of the PRR's community funds to invest around 39 million euros in strengthening and modernizing the Algarve's primary healthcare network, as well as ensuring the effective construction of the new Central and University Hospital of the Algarve”, he added. .

In the current legislature, ten mobile health units were also placed at the service of the populations of the Algarve, in a partnership between the region's municipalities and the Government, with the aim of ensuring care for populations in the interior and more isolated rural areas, ensuring « greater capillarity, proximity and quality of response from the National Health Service in the region».
