Residents of Matos da Picota welcome the suspension of the PDM

AMAP reveals, however, that the fight “is not over yet”.

The Association of Residents and Friends of Picota (AMAP) welcomed the suspension of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM), approved this Monday, January 24th, by the Loulé Chamber, which will prevent the construction of a “garbage” in the Matos da Picota area.

“We are certain that this measure was taken to safeguard the environment, the quality of life and the health of the populations. And we know that this measure was only taken so quickly due to the mobilization of the populations and the work developed, initially by a group of citizens, and later by AMAP and by all those who joined the AMAP initiatives», says the association, in a statement.

AMAP reveals, however, that the fight “is not over yet”.

It is “necessary that the processes that are in the Loulé Chamber and the Algarve Regional Development and Coordination Commission are outright disapproved as it is absolutely incompatible to install a dump/waste management unit in the location intended by Blueotter”.

For the 2nd of February, at 19:00, a meeting is scheduled at the Clube Recreativo e Cultural do Monte Seco, organized by AMAP, which will be attended by Vítor Aleixo.

The PSD has also reacted to this news of the suspension of the PDM.

In a press release, he recalls that “it took two months for the Socialist Party executive to comply with the recommendation to suspend the PDM in the territory where a Waste Treatment Center was about to be installed, which promised to compromise the quality of life of the populations ».

PSD Loulé now expresses its satisfaction that Vítor Aleixo has gone back with the idea of “only” change the use of that land and have suspended the PDM.
