Hospital de Loulé launches pediatric cardiology consultations and differentiated fetal echocardiogram exam

From the 22th

The Hospital de Loulé will provide consultations in the specialty of Pediatric Cardiology and the differentiated examination of fetal echocardiography, as well as pediatric transthoracic echocardiography, from January 22nd.

In the case of fetal echocardiography, it is an exam that "allows detecting cardiac anomalies in the fetus and uses the same equipment as obstetrical ultrasounds, but with the objective of evaluating the structure of the fetal heart".

"According to the General Directorate of Health, this examination is carried out whenever there is a suspicion of a malformation in the baby's heart by the obstetrician or in situations such as a history of cardiac malformations in direct family members, maternal diseases (lupus, diabetes, medications taken by the pregnant woman, among others)”, according to the Loulé health unit.

With regard to pediatric cardiology consultations, they are intended for babies, children and adolescents when there is suspicion of cardiac pathologies, «namely a heart murmur, chest pain (“chest pain”), palpitations and dizziness/fainting».

"This specialty also has an important role in the prevention of sudden death in sport, with cardiac assessment", adds the Hospital de Loulé.

Consultations and exams are guaranteed by pediatric cardiologist Inês Batista Gomes, «who performed the specialty at the Hospital de St. Marta, in Lisbon, also worked at the Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital and at the Garcia de Orta Hospital and was at the Bristol Royal Children's Hospital – University Bristol Hospital in the UK for 2 years as a consultant».

Appointment bookings or more information can be obtained on the hospital website or through the number 289 249 750.
