"Theater Scenes" é a cycle of five shows and five theatrical readings, with artistic direction by Neusa Dias, which will be held in different cultural spaces of Faro, between December and July.

This cycle is «a work about authors, texts and characters in theater. It's about wanting to spread the pleasure of thinking, talking, doing and seeing this art», says the organization.

«It is to declare the poetic sense of theater as a force that cultivates complex thinking about the nature of the human being and his relationship with others and with the world, challenging the dichotomous ethics of the human that builds walls, that digs abysses, that discards lives as goods. Why it is necessary to avoid adding demens (crazy) to the species Homo sapiens».

Dimítris Dimitriadis, Sophocles, Presniakov Brothers, José Maria Vieira Mendes and Jean-Pierre Sarrazac are the five authors from whom this cycle is based, with shows and readings in five cultural spaces in the city of Faro. They are Associação 289, the former Fábrica da Cerveja, CAPa – Center for Performing Arts of the Algarve, the Municipal Library of Faro and Club Farense.

“Morro como País”, based on the play by Dimitris Dimitriádis, is the first creation of this cycle, and its premiere is scheduled for December 17, at 21 pm, at Associação 30, in Faro, with presentation also on the 18th.

The respective theatrical reading, which precedes and prepares the public for the reception of the shows, will take place on December 9, 10 and 11, also at Associação 289.

«Written in 1978, four years after the end of the so-called “Dictatorship of the Colonels” (1967 – 1974), a particularly violent period in the history of Greece», the text evokes «a generation devastated by civil war, political corruption, physical and moral barbarism , standing between fiction and documentary. However, the actions of a dictatorship (persecution, interrogation, imprisonment, torture, shooting) are not the main problem posed by the text», explains the organization.

Tickets have a cost of six euros and can be purchased on the days and place of presentation (from 20:00) or booked in advance via e-mail [email protected] or from the page of Facebook.

The cycle “Cenas de Teatro” has the support of the Portuguese Republic – Culture, the General Directorate of Arts (DGARTES), the Faro municipality and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.
