The communist Rosa Palma is the new vice-president of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community and is part of a management team led by António Pina, who was re-elected president, and which also has Osvaldo Gonçalves, both from the PS, in a vote that took place today, the 5th .

The mayor of Silves, elected by the CDU, joins the two socialists, mayors of Olhão and Alcoutim, who have already occupied the respective positions in the previous term. Between 2017 and 2021, the second vice president was Rui André, from the PSD, who until about a month ago led the Monchique Chamber, but who was unable to re-apply.

In fact, the Monchique Chamber was one of the two municipalities that the socialists snatched from the PSD in the recent Municipal Elections.

In statements to the Sul Informação, António Pina revealed that the new board of AMAL, the entity that brings together the 16 Chambers of the Algarve, was elected with 13 votes in favor and 3 abstentions.

The accounts are, moreover, right, since there are currently 12 socialist mayors, one from the CDU and three from the PSD in the Algarve region.

AMAL's re-elected president identified five areas as "the main focuses of the association for the next four years."

Firstly, the Spatial Planning, since «the Algarve feels strangled» with the existing instruments, whose elaboration depends on the State.

«The way in which the Regional Land Use Plan (PROT) and the Coastal Land Use Plan (POOC) look at the Algarve is outdated and does not serve the interests of the region», he considered.

For the also mayor of Olhão, these plans are an obstacle "to economic development - and not in reference to Tourism".

"The PROT and the POOC are out of date," he said, demanding that they be revised.

On the other hand, AMAL will focus "on the issue of water, health and the new hospital, mobility and energy transition".

At today's meeting, António Pina thanked fellow mayors for the vote of confidence for the renewed challenge, taking the opportunity to welcome the two new members of the Intermunicipal Council, Paulo Alves and Álvaro Araújo, presidents of the Municipalities of Monchique and Vila Real of Santo António (both elected by the PS).

For the Intermunicipal Executive Secretariat, it was decided to propose Joaquim Brandão Pires, who has performed the functions of AMAL's First Secretary since May 2018. The name will be voted on at the next meeting of the Intermunicipal Assembly, on December 6th.
