Alexandre Santos, an athlete from Lagoa Académico Clube, was called up for the national team of Under-18 Handball, which is already in an international tournament in Berlin, Germany, to prepare for participation in the European Under-18 Championship, which will take place in Montenegro.

On October 15, three days after the Portuguese Handball Federation released the list of athletes summoned to the stage of the national U18 team, to participate in the International Tournament of Germany, the athlete Alexandre Santos, from Lagoa Académico Clube , was received at the Town Hall of Lagoa, by President Luís Encarnação, who «congratulated him on his call to the national team, wished him luck and expressed the pride that the Lagoans have in him and in all the young athletes who raise the name of Lagoa throughout this world».

Luís Encarnação also congratulated the president of Lagoa Académico Clube and his coach for the «fantastic work done», as well as the athlete's parents for all the support given.

Athlete Alexandre Santos is a student of the Support Unit for High Performance at School, based at the Padre António Martins de Oliveira Secondary School, in Lagoa, and, according to a statement from the Lagoon City Council, «he reconciles his sporting activity with the excellent school results he achieves. ».

In the conversation that President Luís Encarnação had with the athlete and with his parents, "he didn't let the school pass in the clear and reinforced the importance that studies and professional training have in the development of the future men and women of tomorrow."

The German International Tournament is the first competition aimed at preparing for the European Under-18 Championship, which will take place in Montenegro.

The Under-18 National Team started its work on October 18th, in Maia, where it had several training sessions, and on the 21st it left for Berlin, Germany, where it will remain until October 24th, facing teams such as Germany, Poland and Israel.

Thus, «it is with great expectation that the Lagoans follow the athlete's performance, since there is a great possibility that he will participate in the European Under-18 Championship, which takes place between the 12th and 22nd of August of this year”, adds the municipality.
