The Algarve's International Conferences on Architecture have the Environment and Territory as their theme

Initiative promoted by the Algarve Regional Section of the Ordem dos Arquitectos

The first International Conference on Architecture in the Algarve (JIAA), on the theme Environment and Territory, will take place throughout the month of October, in seven online sessions, with the closing date scheduled for October 30, at 15 pm, with the public presentation of the conclusions at the José Mariano Gago Municipal Library, in Olhão.

The online sessions will take place on four Saturdays of the month, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 15:00 pm to 17:00 pm.

To participate in the JIAA, no registration is required, the sessions can be followed live on this link by clicking here.

The launch of these Conferences was the way for the Algarve Regional Section of the Ordem dos Arquitectos (OASRAlg) to celebrate World Architecture Day.

The JIAA is an initiative of OASRAlg "with the aim of promoting debate directed towards the immediate future".

«Considering the importance of the Algarve territory as the largest tourist area in the country and, consequently, one of the most visited by foreigners, this initiative paves the way for exploring the central themes of national and international debate», stress those responsible for OASRAlg.

Through the promotion of institutional public participation (national and international), the contributions will serve to present current scientific cases, with the crossing of proposals from the communities and the educational and academic part.

OASRAlg considers that “the signing of the commitment to the Paris Agreement (2015) has focused on climate change as the global topic of debate. That same year, the United Nations Organization launched the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to transform the world, adding inclusion and housing to the central themes of the agenda».

Now, “with the onset of the pandemic, the human condition worsened, and it is important to focus the debate on the intersection of public health issues in cities and the environment”.

Since Architecture is an «interdisciplinary theme in cultural and environmental issues, with the diversity and territorial specificities of the Algarve», OASRAlg claims to take on the promotion of this debate, with concerted and efficient actions.

In this sense, «and because everyone's success depends exclusively on those involved, this initiative allows the creation of synergies between institutions, with the promotion of transversal and interdisciplinary content, contributing to a better future».

The participation of institutions representing governance, culture, the market, production, sociology, economy, tourism, health, engineering, environment, science and academia ensure the contribution of themes applied in the territory of the Algarve.
