Sotavento do Algarve GAL received Spanish counterpart

Spaniards "left the Cubist city pleased with the discoveries they made"

The Local Action Group (GAL) Sotavento do Algarve, which is headquartered in the Municipality of Olhão, received, this Thursday, 28 October, a visit from representatives of a similar body in Galicia (Spain). The idea was to make known the “developed good practices”.

According to the Chamber of Olhão, the Spaniards, who were received by the vice-president of the Municipality Elsa Parreira, the councilor João Evaristo and the coordinator of the Sotavento GAL Rita Pestana, "left the Cubist city pleased with the discoveries they made."

The five members of the Ártabro Sur Fishing Sector Local Action Group visited the facilities of the Sotavento LAG, in the Municipality of Olhão, then went on a tour of the Ria Formosa, where they could see several projects developed there, such as a maritime company. tourist that makes tours in the Ria.

The Spanish representatives also had the opportunity to get to know a tuna armature and its ancestral techniques and some of the projects of the Association of Residents of Ilha da Culatra, one of the partners of LAG Sotavento.

On Culatra Island, members of the Ártabo Sur Gulf Fisheries Sector Local Action Group realized how a pioneering energy efficiency project is being carried out, which included the bid to acquire a community vessel powered by solar energy, which will serve all community nurserymen and shellfish gatherers.

In this project, which aims at energy efficiency, it will also be possible to install solar panels in the fishing supports that will supply energy to those spaces and to the vessel's charging station, since it is electric. In the future, the energy produced by those panels is also expected to 'supply' the island's dwellings.

These and other projects, worth around 3 million euros, are supported by the LAG Sotavento, through the Mar 2020 programme.
