Caravela Vera Cruz docks in Portimão and can be visited for free

The Vera Cruz caravel will dock next Tuesday at the Diogo de Silves pier, on the Portimão riverside, where it can be visited free of charge until 2 October.

This replica caravel, «the most important Portuguese ship of the 10th century», will be open to free visits to schools, associations and the general public from 00:17 am to 00:XNUMX pm, according to APORVELA – Portuguese Association of Sailing Training, a partner in the cross-border project “Magallanes: Entrepreneurship of Cultural and Creative Industries”, within which this initiative takes place.

On Saturday, the 2nd, Vera Cruz can only be visited by the general public.

"This is a unique opportunity to visit one of the most important vessels on Portuguese voyages in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries and learn more about Portuguese navigation techniques, commercial and exploration routes or life aboard the caravels", he adds. Association.

In addition to getting to know the ship, visitors can enjoy activities carried out on board by the project partners, namely the Regional Coordination and Development Commission, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, the Association of Municipalities of the Algarve, the QRER Cooperative and the Museum0 .

This replica caravel was built in the shipyards of Vila do Conde, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil, and launched in 2000.

The cross-border project “Magallanes: Entrepreneurship in Cultural and Creative Industries” is financed by the Operational Program for Cross-border Cooperation Spain-Portugal (INTERREG-POCTEP) and will allow «the promotion of these industries in the Algarve, with the creation of itineraries, centers and laboratories, networks “collaboratives” and, in this way, “expand the economic fabric in the area of ​​culture and the arts” in the region.

Magallanes_ICC started in 2019 and «will materialize in the creation of several physical spaces of international reference where, through guidance and advice, entrepreneurship, the emergence of new ideas and the implementation of innovative technological, cultural and creative companies will be supported and promoted in cross-border territory'.
