Algarve surfer Yolanda Hopkins qualifies for the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games

Algarvian young man won second place on the world circuit

Algarve surfer Yolanda Sequeira Hopkins will compete in the quarter-finals of the surf competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, after defeating French Johanne Defay in the third round, which took place this Monday at Tsurigasaki beach, in Chiba.

The 23-year-old Portuguese athlete was stronger than her opponent, the runner-up on the world circuit, won 10,84 points (6,17 and 4,67) in this round, against 9,4 (5,83 and 3,57 ) of Defay.

Yolanda Sequeira Hopkins will thus be able to continue fighting for a medal. For now, it has secured an Olympic diploma in the sport's debut at the Olympic Games, as it is among the top eight classified.
