“The objective is to enhance the offer of cultural and creative tourism, through the valorization of the unique specificities of the destination, namely, traditions, customs, heritage and local food products”, says this project.

This initiative, which has a prize of 15 thousand euros distributed equally among the winners of the three categories in the competition, is open to producers, artisans, designers, chefs and tourist agents in the region, who have previously joined the “Algarve Craft & Food” project , as well as national and foreign media and media professionals.

Developed by the Algarve Tourism Region in partnership with Tertúlia Algarvia and QRER – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories, “Algarve Craft & Food” was launched in February 2020.

«This is a strategic project for the region, as it aims to create and promote differentiating tourist experiences, of a sustainable nature, especially in places traditionally with less affluence, such as rural areas and the interior of the Algarve. By supporting the preservation and revitalization of traditional practices and customs, it also aims to increase the income sources of artisans and local food producers».

The creation of the “Algarve Craft & Food” Awards arises in the context of this project, which includes a wide range of activities, such as creative residencies and technical workshops for artisans, designers, local agro-food producers and chefs kitchen, creative laboratories of traditional Algarve gastronomy, a seminar on the internationalization of handicrafts and local food products or training actions.
