The Poldra substation, located in the municipality of Aljezur, has now come into operation, after 12 months of construction, announced today by E-REDES, formerly EDP Distribuição.

The company stresses that "these infrastructures are critical and essential in the energy distribution network, as they allow the transformation of different voltage levels, increasing the capacity and quality of energy supply, and can also act as delivery points for industrial consumers" .

This substation, as well as the Medium Voltage (MV) support network, had an overall investment of 335 euros, guarantees a power of 10 MVA and will supply approximately 700 residential customers and one business customer.

E-REDES adds that "a project of this nature requires the participation of several partners, since these units are increasingly complex and with the latest technology, to allow, among other functionalities, their automatic and remote management". In this project, E-REDES had the involvement of several companies, including CME, SIEMENS, ABB, JJTOMÉ, LVTEC, Carlos Gil and LABELEC.

This new infrastructure is part of the investment and maintenance policy in the E-REDES electrical network, whose main axes are “increasing the resilience of the network, the renovation and rehabilitation of assets, automation and digitalization in the management of the network, as well as optimization measures in operations'.

E-REDES, formerly EDP Distribuição, is responsible for operating the electricity distribution network in Mainland Portugal, in Low, Medium and High Voltage.
