The “ECOS-Ecological Workshop for Social Cooperation”, a project by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Albufeira “which combines personal and social training through art and culture and environmental awareness”, was officially inaugurated last week.

The launch of the project, which is financed by the Municipality of Albufeira and by the financing instrument “Partnerships for Impact”, of the Portugal Social Innovation program, was attended by Ana Mendes Godinho, the Minister for Labour, Solidarity and Social Security.

This initiative, within the municipality, «appears as an innovative solution of differentiated responses to the identified problem, namely poverty and social exclusion» and consists «in a process of qualification of individuals and families», according to the Municipality of Albufeira.

The project's recipients are "non-employed people, with low employability conditions, such as low personal and social skills", as well as "over-indebted people or families" and "people and companies with a high sense of social responsibility and environmental".

The amount of the total social investment is 875.475 euros, with the municipality of Albufeira contributing 5 312.691 euros over three years (from September 2020 to August 2023).

For José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, «this type of projects with a strong social brand are extremely important to elevate the situation of those who had or have different weaknesses in life».

«I can't find anything more fair, democratic, or more human than this way of being in society and the Municipality of Albufeira, of course, supports, in a very committed way, these actions that mark a change in the social face of the XNUMXst century» , considered the mayor.

After all, underlined the Chamber, «Albufeira is the second largest social investor in the region and fourth nationally», within the scope of “Portugal Inovação Social”, with an investment of more than 429 thousand euros in three projects.

In the Algarve, only Loulé invested more (3rd in Portugal), with the list at national level being headed by Vila Nova de Gaia (1st), Porto (2nd).

In addition to the ECOS project, the municipality of Albufeirense supports the projects “O Nosso piso” and “SAPIE”, with around 74 thousand euros and 36 thousand euros, respectively.

“Our floor”, by the Rés do Chão Cento e Dezanove Association, «is a tool designed to help teachers transform the classroom into a game that motivates all students to learn to be caregivers in the public spaces they attend» .

"The project's pedagogical objectives are to increase knowledge about the public spaces they attend, increase knowledge about civic participation mechanisms, train for the structuring and implementation of proposals for the qualification of the public space, reduce negligent behavior in the public space and increase powers to mobilize third parties», according to the City Council of Albufeira.

The “SAPIE – Early Warning System for School Failure”, by Associação Tempos Brilhantes, “is a Simplex technological solution focused on preventing the risk of failure and early school leaving”.

«The project signals students at risk, as it identifies the risk of failure and dropping out of school based on indicators of achievement, attendance and behavior. In addition, the project outlines the student's risk profile, as it condenses critical information regarding the causes of the risk of school failure», summarizes the municipality.

According to the Mayor, «supporting these projects is of particular importance as it aims to stimulate social entrepreneurship, as well as to foster innovative local approaches to social development and promote local strategies for active inclusion, creating great value for society".
