13 parishes in seven municipalities in the Algarve are priorities for the inspection of fuel management, within the scope of defending the forest against fire. The order that identifies these territories was published this Wednesday, March 31, in Diário da República.

Aljezur, Bordeira (Aljezur), Ameixial and Salir (Loulé), Marmelete, Monchique and Alferce (Monchique), São Brás de Alportel, Cachopo and Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo (Tavira), Vila do Bispo and Raposeira (Vila do Bispo) and Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA) are the parishes in the Algarve considered to be priorities by the Government and, therefore, will have a tighter inspection.

This means that, between 16 May and 30 June, in these territories, it will be a priority to inspect the cleaning of «land bordering buildings in rural areas (in a 50-metre strip) and population centers, campsites, industrial parks, platforms of logistics and landfills in forest areas (within a 100 meter strip)'.

From the 1st to the 30th of June, the inspection will focus on the road, rail and electricity transmission and distribution lines at very high and high voltage (in a strip of 10 meters on each side), as well as on the lines of electricity. distribution of electricity in medium voltage and in the natural gas transport network (in a strip of 7 meters on each side).

However, the order of the Secretary of State for Internal Administration, Patrícia Gaspar, and the Secretary of State for Nature Conservation, Forests and Spatial Planning, João Paulo Catarino, underlines that «the establishment of priorities does not exempt the supervisory agents to assess compliance with all the rules provided for by law, not limiting the inspection to the areas and periods referred to».

According to a joint statement from the Ministry of Internal Administration and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action, «the identification of these priority parishes allows an efficient use of the human and technical resources of the entities involved in monitoring compliance with the rules for cleaning the land, in a context enormous pressure on public resources resulting from the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and when a territorial dimension that exceeds 6 million hectares is at stake”, throughout the country.
