Autódromo do Algarve marks the start and close of the new Portuguese Speed Championship

Four triple journeys ensure more time on the track and greater visibility thanks to the broadcast of the events on SPORT TV

The new Portugal Speed Championship by SPORT TV will kick off on the weekend of April 23rd to 25th, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA), side by side with the International GT Open.

It then heads to the mythical Vila Real Circuit, on the weekend of June 25th to 27th, where it will share the track with the FIA WTCR Championship.

On the 10th and 11th of July, the CVP will be at the Autodromo do Estoril, in a race alongside several national events and the Portuguese Classic Championships.

To close with a flourish, the Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV returns to the Autódromo do Algarve, to carry out the final journey, side by side with the European Le Mans Series, on the weekend of 23rd and 24th October.

The Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV is «the top speed in Portugal and will offer teams and registered drivers a competition with the identity and notoriety of the glory years of motorsport in our country», stress the organizers.

The maximum exponent of speed in Portugal will have a regulation designed for the spectacle and competitiveness, accepting three categories of vehicles that house mythical brands and models that are known to fans of motor racing.

The Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV will accept vehicles from the GT Cup, GT Light and Touring Cup classes. There are «three well-differentiated classes and models for all tastes and budgets», adds the organization.

So that all teams can adapt to Pirelli tyres, used exclusively in the Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV, the organization will offer a day of free tests to all drivers who sign up for the competition.

Another concern of the promoters of the Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV was the visibility of the competition. Therefore, the national top speed competition will be present on major stages and included in major international competitions.

The proposed calendar takes into account "the needs of the teams to rationalize their budgets, by proposing four days during 2021". But «looks with great affection for competitiveness and the need to offer as much time as possible in competition».

Thus, on each competition weekend, there will be three races, two in the Sprint format (20 minutes and one driver at a time) and one in the Endurance format (45 minutes and the use of two drivers if applicable) .

As for the visibility of the competition, the Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV «will hold three of the four rounds hand in hand with major international competitions». These are the GT Open, the WTCR and the European Le Mans Series, championships of great international visibility.

Thanks to this connection, the drivers and teams of the Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV will have wide visibility for their projects and sponsors, as the competition's promoters have found in this TV channel a partner for the transmission of national races.

In addition, with the support of SPORT TV, the events of three of the four weekends of the competition will be broadcast, in full, and a space reserved for interviews and analysis of the tests and the competition itself will be opened.

«An absolutely unprecedented media space that Prime Promotion and AIA, as promoters of the competition, have conquered and that will be profoundly beneficial to all participants in the Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV», emphasize the organizers of the new competition.

Prime Promotion and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve also offer advice so that teams and drivers can make their projects for the Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV viable.

“It will be a unique opportunity for young drivers to share the track with renowned names in the national speed competition who have already confirmed their participation in the competition”, emphasize the organizers. The names of the consecrated “will be known very soon”.

The Portuguese Federation of Automobile and Karting (FPAK), Prime Promotion and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve believe that «the conditions are in place for the Portuguese Speed Championship by SPORT TV to mark the return to the heydays of competition on track in Portugal» .
