After all, there is still no date to start vaccination in the Algarve

Start had been announced for the 27th, by the regional health delegate

After all, «it is still not possible to go forward» with the date on which vaccination against Covid-19 will begin in the Algarve. despite the start has been announced for December 27, Válter Fonseca, director of the Health Quality Department of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), said this Tuesday, the 22nd, that, for now, it is not known when the process will start in the region.

Questioned by Sul Informação, at the usual DGS press conference, the official explained that, on December 27, vaccination of health professionals will begin in the «five Hospital Centers that have already been announced»: Porto, São João, Coimbra, Lisbon North and Lisbon Central, leaving the Algarve excluded.

This list, moreover, had already been announced yesterday by Marta Temido, Minister of Health, who explained that these five structures "represent what is the hospital referral network of the National Health Service, the institutions designated as the end of the line".

The fact that the Algarve is left out of the first day of vaccination, on December 27th, it conflicts with what was announced, last Thursday, the 17th, by the regional Health delegate.

Ana Cristina Guerreiro assured, then, that the process would start on the 27th and that the region was prepared for it.

Válter Fonseca, at today's press conference, explained that "all health professionals will be sequentially vaccinated against Covid-19".

"There is a proposal to start this vaccination by some health professionals and some hospitals, but the phased sequence of vaccination will reach everyone, including all Portuguese and residents in Portugal," he concluded.
