Vaccination against Covid-19 in the Algarve will start in the Algarve on December 27th, revealed this Thursday, Ana Cristina Guerreiro, regional Health delegate, at the press conference to update the pandemic situation in the region. "Everything is working to make it run as smoothly as possible," he considered.

This announcement comes after Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, has also said, in a Twitter post, that vaccination will start on the 27th, in the European Union.

In the Algarve, Ana Cristina Guerreiro guaranteed today, «the teams are formed, the distribution network as well and the nominal survey, of the people to be vaccinated, is being carried out».

Ana Cristina Guerreiro also added that “the places where the vaccine was administered are all identified and the cold chain is treated”.

The cold chain is of particular importance, taking into account that the Pfeizer/BioNTech vaccine, the first against Covid-19 and which will be approved on December 21 by the European Medicines Agency, «must be kept at a negative level» .

According to the regional health delegate, "there will be daily distribution" of the vaccine. "Every day we will have supply", said the person in charge.

Asked about the number of people who will be vaccinated in the first phase, in the Algarve, among health professionals, residents and employees in homes and people over 50 years old and with comorbidities, the regional Health delegate did not know, for now, how many will be.

It is certain that the first phase “will not be the most difficult because, in logistical and numerical terms, it will not be as numerous”.

In homes, both legal and illegal, the regional health delegate explained that there will be "fixed teams" that will go to these institutions to vaccinate users and residents.

«I think that the population residing in the Algarve can trust this vaccination process at will because it will take place in the best possible way», he concluded.
