Botelho asks the Algarve to adopt "defensive behavior" against Covid-19

Regional coordinator insisted on sending a "message of confidence to the Algarve and those who visit us"

Jorge Botelho, the new regional coordinator for the implementation of the declaration of the contingency situation in the Algarve, called on the Algarve to adopt "defensive behavior" at a time when Covid-19 cases are on the rise in the region.

Botelho, who is Secretary of State for Decentralization and Local Administration and was appointed by the Government to coordinate the pandemic in the Algarve, was present yesterday at the press conference to assess the pandemic, held at the regional headquarters of Civil Protection, in Loulé.

“Refrain from risky behavior: we must take precautionary measures and not let our guard down. What is happening now in the country and in the Algarve is the result of some flexibility that we also had, due to the low numbers we had throughout the summer», said Jorge Botelho, who replaced José Apolinário in the functions of regional coordinator.

In his speech, the former mayor of Tavira also insisted on passing on a "message of confidence to the Algarve and those who visit us" about "the health system that is in place and its capacity to respond".

"What I see is that the institutions work, work, are articulated, to try to bring the numbers down and then I appeal to the population to adopt defensive behavior," he added.

On the same path, António Pina, president of AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve, a position that Botelho also occupied, asked the children to “follow the rules” because, otherwise, they could “put their grandparents at risk”.

«It's time to get attention again from the guys. This is perhaps a message I would like to reinforce», he concluded.
