METRO AG Group is already the owner of Makro Portugal

The German group METRO AG has already signed the purchase contract for Grupo Aviludo, a company based in the Algarve and one of the leaders in Portugal in the wholesale sector for hotels and restaurants, which generated a turnover of 152 million euros in 2019, reaching more than 13.500 establishments and companies, from North to South of the country.

The deal is still awaiting approval by the competent authorities, namely the Competition Authority. Therefore, the parties agreed not to disclose the financial details of the transaction.

Through this acquisition, METRO AG increases its portfolio in Portugal, where it already owns Makro, intensifying its leadership strategy in the sector with expansion of the distribution business. foodservice.

In addition to the acquisition of the operating business, which encompasses the production and distribution centers, as well as the logistics fleet, this transaction also includes the company's real estate assets.

Olaf Koch, CEO of METRO AG, commented that, «Following the acquisition of Pro from Pro, Rungis Express and Classic Fine Foods in recent years, we will now, through the acquisition of Aviludo, expand the offer and services for our customers in Portugal, a market that we consider strategic».

Since its foundation in 1984, the Aviludo Group has grown to become an operator of foodservice with national expression and in several categories.

It currently employs around 850 employees, including a sales force of around 150 professionals, who contact customers across the country on a daily basis.

In 2019, it reached a turnover of 152 million euros, characterized by its competence and high level of service in key categories.

Aviludo offers its customers great flexibility and reliability in delivering products that meet the individual needs of professional customers and does so through its 8 logistics platforms, including 4 with meat production and processing capacity, and a fleet with more than 180 vehicles.
