Portugal on the safe list helps to "reverse indecisions" of British tourists

João Soares does not want the Algarve to be harmed «not now, not ever»

"It is excellent news that reverses all these indecisions that existed on the part of customers and tour operators." That's how João Soares, Algarve delegate of the Hotel Association of Portugal, reacts to the permanence of Portugal on the list of safe destinations in the UK, known this Thursday, September 3rd.

In statements to the Sul Informação, the hotelier said that this was "the best news we could receive".

Portugal had been added to the list of safe countries on the 20th of August, but due to the increase in cases in recent days, in the regions of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and in the North, there was a fear that it could be withdrawn.

By the way, news came yesterday that there were even British tourists anticipating their return from holiday, to escape the eventual establishment of mandatory quarantine in the United Kingdom.

For João Soares, the permanence of Portugal on the list of safe destinations must now be added to «greater pressure» on the central government «so that we are not penalized, neither now nor ever».

“Due to lack of care in some regions, you cannot harm the Algarve, which has to go through a very hard winter and which is already coming with huge losses”, he explained.

"Even with the visitors we had in August, our numbers are very low and there has been an incredible job in controlling the pandemic in the South, with disciplined people and competent authorities very active on the ground to minimize problems," he said.

“The work has to continue to be done. We cannot live in insecurity, but rather in the security that we will still be able to minimize losses”, he concluded.
