The Chamber of Faro launched a new tender, open until 17 October, for the construction of the new access bridge to Praia de Faro. The new project foresees two lanes of automobile circulation and was changed so that the price is more adequate to the current reality.
This is the third tender launched, after the two previous ones were closed due to lack of proposals (published in December 28th e 7 November 2017).
The work, with an execution period of 540 days, maintains a base price of 3,5 million euros, ensuring the Municipality of Faro the financing of more than 50% of the contract.
The new access bridge to Praia de Faro it will replace the current one, being located on a route parallel to the East, at a distance that takes care of, for example, «the need to carry out the demolition work of the existing bridge».
For the rest, the costs of demolition and removal of the current bridge “will be borne by the municipality, contrary to what happened before”.
The new bridge will cover a distance of around 180 meters, with a deck approximately 11 meters wide.
This board will accommodate two lanes for automobile circulation, also allowing public transport access to Praia de Faro, also contemplating two pedestrian walkways, one of them with a width that allows the coexistence of pedestrian circulation with bicycles.
"Thus, this new bridge will allow for decent circulation conditions in orderly coexistence for motor vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians, which, together with the previous works on the outdoor car park and the pedestrian and cycling footbridge, will allow the implementation of a new mobility model in the access to the beach of Faro», says the City Council.
«In view of the initial project of the new bridge, the stylistic elements outside the bridge deck, which made the intervention very expensive, were also removed from the new project. Subsequently, the management and maintenance of this infrastructure will be the responsibility of the municipality», he adds.
A project reformulation the bridge had already been advanced by Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, to Sul Informação. The objective, explained the mayor, is to attract contractors, after the first two tenders have been deserted.
It is certain that, now, the Municipality of Faro welcomes the launch of the third competition, under the responsibility of the Polis Ria Formosa Society, but to which the local authority has "much contributed".
Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber, even considers that his executive “has done everything to make this intervention go ahead, having provided the necessary funds and support with the Polis and the tutelage”.
A work came to be pinch (made with three fingers) for a million euros (without knowing where that money would come from), since it was necessary to increase the base value of the contest, after the first one had been deserted. It turned out to be the camera of Faro to move forward with the budget.
For Rogério Bacalhau, «we understand that this extraordinary effort», made by the municipality, «was essential to finally fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the local inhabitants, as well as of all Farenses who understand the need to have new access to this point of the territory, which is also fundamental for the touristic affirmation of our county».
