The tender for the construction of the new bridge to Praia de Faro was launched this Tuesday, the 7th of November, and the works should start after the summer of 2018, being completed in early 2020, according to the views of the Mayor of Faro.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, explains that «the competition will take a few months and, probably, the work will start after the summer of next year. There are the legal procedures for the competition, then there will still be a need for a visa from the Court of Auditors, so I estimate that the competition will last for seven or eight months».

For the mayor, «the important thing is that the tender is underway, there is guaranteed funding and the work will be carried out, regardless of the month in which the execution begins next year».

When the construction of the new bridge starts, “it will take a year and a half for construction, the execution time is 540 days. Therefore, by my accounts, the end of 2019, beginning of 2020, is the expected date" for the completion of the works.

The construction of the new bridge to Praia de Faro will cost 2,5 million euros and is the responsibility of the Polis Ria Formosa Society. Faro will finance 20% of the project.

According to Rogério Bacalhau, a first tranche of this amount has already been transferred to Sociedade Polis, with the remaining amount being transferred in the next year.

The submission of proposals for the construction of the bridge will be open for 30 days, counting from the publication of the advertisement.

In August, the Minister of Environment announced, in Tavira, that the tender for the new bridge at Praia de Faro would be released later this year, as well as the tenders for dredging in the Ria de Alvor and in the bars of Fuzeta and Armona (in the Ria Formosa) and for the new beach plan at Ancão.
