President of the Republic went to bring "solidarity" to the elderly and employees of the home in Boliqueime

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa started a working day with a home visit, then met at the church

“Solidarity, solidarity, solidarity. We are all in this fight together. And we are turning around!».

This was the message that the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa took today, Sunday, to users and employees of the nursing home of Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Boliqueime, where the Covid-19 outbreak with more associated deaths occurred in the Algarve.

The Head of State waved and spoke to users from afar and addressed them with words of encouragement. And there was even an opportunity to remove the already traditional selfies, even though always safeguarding the proper distances.

In his speech, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa stated that he was there to, «first of all, give everyone a big hug».

«But my hug is special for the boys and girls my age who are here. For all of you, there's a big hug for the men and lots of kisses for the ladies», he said.

The hugs, from a distance, did not stop there, as the President of the Republic insisted on also sending them “to those who allow this work to exist, who work here, direct it and make it what it is, always growing ».

It is, moreover, these people who guarantee that the users of this home “are so well treated and so well received, with love, affection, tenderness and solidarity”.

“Fortunately, the last few months have been better times for everyone. In June and July, there was better news. And this is good for Santa Casa de Boliqueime, for the municipality of Loulé and for Portugal», believes Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

«Be aware that you are being accompanied by many, many Portuguese people who know what the work of this house has been and are also happy to be living the months they have lived», concluded the President of the Republic.
