Hoteliers are satisfied with Formula 1 in the Algarve and hope to 'keep it here'

Formula 1 in the Algarve «contrary to the idea» that the region is not a safe destination

The presence of Formula 1 at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão, between 20 and 25 October, «is good news» for the Algarve hotel industry and «the biggest challenge is to keep it here» in the coming years.

Elidérico Viegas, president of AHETA – Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve, highlighted the Sul Informação that «events like these should be understood as opportunities to publicize the destination, especially in this specific case, which has enormous media coverage, which will promote the Algarve in this atypical year».

However, for the leader of AHETA, the biggest challenge is yet to come. “The challenge is to keep the competition here for years to come. The challenge is continuity», he defended.

João Soares, regional delegate of the Hotel Association of Portugal, highlighted the fact that the confirmation of Formula 1 in the Algarve would “go against the idea of insecurity that comes from the decision of the United Kingdom to leave Portugal out of the air corridors”.

For the hotelier, holding the event in the Algarve «does justice to the work carried out by the region» and «is very important, not only for the direct impact, but also for the indirect one».

«Despite being a short period of stay, the teams and the entire structure will be accommodated in hotels in the Algarve, even in areas further away from the Autodromo. Therefore, it will help the hotel industry a lot, because at this point all customers are very important», concluded João Soares.
