Covid-19: Approved 1,6 million euros in support for temporary stops in fishing

498 applications were submitted

The first 98 applications for support to temporary stoppages of fishing vessels, due to Covid-19, were approved by the managing authority of the operational program Mar 2020, in a total public support of 1.630.947 euros, the Government revealed today.

There are 19 applications for trawling vessels (401.442,3 euros), 44 related to siege vessels (906.786,7 euros) and 35 related to multipurpose vessels (322.718.4 euros), having been paid 751.433,32 euros of the 1.196.788,82 euros submitted in payment requests”, according to a note from the Ministry of the Sea, sent to Lusa.

Payments are made by Mar 2020 and the Institute for Financing Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP), and the amendment of the regulation of the European Fund for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (FEAMP), through Mar 2020, allowed the allocation of seven millions of euros of public support, intended to compensate fishermen and companies in the fishing sector for having stopped the fleet for up to two months.

The applications presented total 498 (multipurpose vessels 341, siege 114 and coastal trawl 43), representing public support, in community and national funds, in excess of 5,3 million euros, according to the statement.

Regarding the amount of the appropriation in the case of applications for multipurpose vessels, the amount amounts to 3.500.000 euros, with the value of applications totaling 2.545.857 euros.

In drag, the allocation is 1.045.813 euros and the amount of applications totals 668.764 euros, while in the siege the budget is 2.454.187 euros and the value of applications reaches 2.094.857 euros.

The Government also states that it is in force the compensation scheme for aquaculturists for the temporary suspension or reduction of production and sales as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, in an allocation of 4 million euros, and applications are open until the end of July.
