Covid-19: Mar 2020 provides 4 ME to support aquaculturists

Measure was announced today

The operational program (OP) Mar 2020 provided four million euros in support to fish farmers who had to suspend production and sales in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was announced today.

“In the framework of OP Mar 2020, specific measures were taken to mitigate the impact of the epidemiological outbreak […]. After articulation with the sector's representative associations, support is now open, totaling four million euros, to compensate fish farmers from all subsectors of fish farming, mollusc farming and algae farming, for the temporary suspension or reduction of production and sales" , reads in a published note on the program website.

According to the same document, the operations aim to compensate for losses greater than 25% of the beneficiary's average billing, between March 1st and June 30th, compared to the same period in 2019.

The amount corresponds to the monthly average value of the registered drop in billing, "if the value of this drop is greater than 25% and less than or equal to 40% of the monthly average billing history, it becomes twice the monthly average value of the billing drop registered, if the value of this break is greater than 40%».

Applications for support, within the scope of Mar 2020, are submitted through the online page of this program.

Mar 2020, which is part of Portugal 2020, aims to implement the support measures included in the FEAMP, with the promotion of competitiveness, economic, social and environmental sustainability, as well as increasing territorial cohesion among its priorities.

This operational program has a global allocation of 508 million euros, 116 million euros of which correspond to the national public contribution, which originates in the State Budget.
