UAlg launches website to attract international students in response to pandemic

Number of international students will decrease, admits Paulo Águas

The University of the Algarve's bet on international students suffered a setback with the Covid-19 pandemic and the enrollment of students from Brazil, which are usually a good source of revenue for the Algarve academy's coffers, should drop.

Even so, Paulo Águas, dean of the University of Algarve, in an interview with the Impressões program, done in partnership by Sul Informação and RUA FM, expects this to be a passing scenario and has a new tool to attract students from other places: o www.studyinAlgarve.pt.

This new website it can help in attracting students, particularly in a year when face-to-face recruitment fairs have not taken place.

The portal aims to attract international researchers and students by making known «a set of reasons to choose the Algarve not only as a tourist destination, but also as an academic destination».

As UAlg explains, «the creation of the “Study in Algarve” website arises, among other reasons, as a response to the new coronavirus pandemic. At a time when the world is experiencing moments of uncertainty and insecurity, the University of Algarve intends to reinforce the feeling of confidence and hope in building new plans for the future».

The platform that has as its starting point the question “Why the Algarve?” «It intends to be an information and welcoming space, based on the signature used for the international communication campaign: “Algarve is our campus – Study & Research in Algarve”».

The target audience of this new portal, adds the Algarvian academy, «are the millions of students who every year have privileged academic mobility, choosing a university outside their country of residence to carry out their graduate (undergraduate) or postgraduate studies. graduates (masters or doctorate)», adds the University of Algarve.

The contents of the site are in Portuguese and English.

This initiative is supported by the KCITAR Algarve project, financed through the European Social Fund, Priority Axis 8 – Modernizing and Empowering Administration, of the Algarve Regional Operational Programme.
