Portimonense beats Marítimo and continues to fight for maintenance

Algarvians haven't lost since the start of the I League

it was a real final and Portimonense came out alive. The Algarve beat Marítimo by 3-2, in a game of the 28th round of the I League of Football, played this Monday, June 22, and achieved an important victory in the fight for maintenance.

Portimonense knew beforehand that these would be a crucial 90 minutes against a direct rival for the permanence. Only one victory interested the Algarveans who entered the match well.

Ricardo Vaz Tê replaced Jackson Martínez up front and the Portuguese player could have scored as soon as the 11th minute. Tabata crossed and the striker headed wide, when he had no opposition.

Minutes later, another chance for the striker. This time, Vaz Tê even hit the goal, but Charles made a great save that prevented the opening goal.

On the other hand, Marítimo also played an essential card in the fight for permanence. The islanders knew that winning was crucial and had a great chance to score in the 20th minute. Xadas hit a free-kick and Fali Candé deflected it… towards the post, almost scoring an own goal.

The first of the match would arrive, but for Portimonense. Renê and Charles disagreed, the Marítimo defender made a pass to the side without any connection and Tabata, attentive to the play, intercepted the ball and shot for 1-0. 24 minutes were played.

The goal was good for Portimonense, who continued with a strong attacking bent. The Algarvians had in Tabata, Lucas Fernandes and Aylton, the main figures of a good performance. And it was even from Boa Morte's feet that another goal came, in yet another insularity.

The free-kick, taken from the right, even seemed harmless, but Bebeto made a bad cut that left the ball at the mercy of Aylton. The winger appeared in a timely fashion and, unopposed, made it 2-0 (39′).

Early in the second half, at 53′, Marítimo managed to reduce. Zainadine made a first header, the ball bounced off Dener and fell to Rodrigo Pinho, who, on half turn, made the Madeira team's first.

When a troubled second half was approaching for Portimonense, behold, the Algarve reached the third goal (59′). Vaz Tê headed, Hackman received it inside the area, and, despite having hit the ball badly, managed to score. A curl that ended up scoring a goal…

With a comfortable result, the Algarve knew how to manage the advantage, but still suffered the second in added time.

At 90+3′, Rodrigo Pinho took advantage of a lack of attention from the Algarve defense and scored twice in the match.

Portimonense, who has not lost since the restart of the I League, now has 24 points, 4 below the waterline, and remains in 17th position. Marítimo has 28 and is in 16th place.

In the next round, the Algarve will visit Famalicão, on the 30th of June, in a game scheduled for 17:00.
