Algarvian player Gonçalo Ramos, from Benfica, is one of the 100 nominees for this year's Golden Boy award that distinguishes the best European under-21 player.

Last year, the striker, born in Olhão, had been nominated by the newspaper “Tuttosport”, Italian publication that awards the prize.

The young player, aged 18, plays for Benfica's B team, but this season he has also played for the reds' juniors and under-23s.

In 29 games played this season, Gonçalo Ramos has scored 10 goals.

There are other Portuguese players nominated for the Golden Boy: Eduardo Quaresma (Sporting), Tiago Djaló (Lille), Pedro Neto (Wolverhampton), Fábio Silva (FC Porto), Rafael Camacho (Sporting), Romário Baró (FC Porto), Tomás Tavares (Benfica) and Tiago Lopes (FC Porto).

Renato Sanches, in 2016, and João Félix, last year, were the Portuguese athletes who have already won this award.
