UAlg gave a course on the Mediterranean Diet to students from nine countries

The course aimed at «transmitting a broad view of the different domains of the Mediterranean Diet»

Trainees from nine countries participated in the International Course on the Mediterranean Diet, which took place from 27 to 29 November at the University of Algarve.

The initiative brought together participants from Italy, Croatia, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, Slovenia, Albania, Cyprus and Portugal and was coordinated by the University of Algarve (MeditBio), within the scope of the international project “MD.net: When brand meets people ”.

«This course had as its main mission to transmit a broad vision of the different domains of the Mediterranean Diet. Throughout the different panels, round tables, workshops and visits, the themes of Natural, Cultural, Food, Gastronomy and Tourism were addressed, also integrating cases of good regional practices in the valorization and management of these same resources», according to the University of Algarve .

In addition to professors from the University of Algarve, Anabela Romano (coordinator of the course), João Guerreiro, João Bernardes, Maria Palma Mateus, Alexandra Gonçalves, Celestino Ruivo, among others, different entities and companies participated.

At the level of higher education institutions, the University of Naples (Valeria Pezza), University of Naples Suor Orsola Benincasa (Rossella Galletti), University of Barcelona (Emma Pla Rusca), University of Évora (Filipe Barata) participated in the event.

Also present were CCDR Algarve (Francisco Serra), Algarve Tourism Region (João Fernandes), Tavira City Council (Jorge Queiroz), GeoWalks & Talks (Hélder Pereira), QRER Cooperative (Sara Fernandes), Proactive Tour ( João Ministro), In Loco Association (Catarina Vasconcelos and Ana Poeta), General Directorate of Education (Rui Lima), and Eating Algarve – Food Tours (António Guerreiro).

On the last day, the trainees had the opportunity to visit the olive oil production of Viveiros Monterosa, the Museu do Traje and the production of aromatic herbs of the Dias de Aromas company.

«After three intensive days, each trainee will now have to replicate the present course in their territory, adapting it to their specific context and needs. Subsequently, the course will be available on a digital platform for the general public», concluded UAlg.
