“A Terra Treme” passes through Olhão, Lagos and Ourique

This initiative will take place in various parts of the country

The “A Terra Treme” initiative, to raise awareness of the seismic risk, takes place on November 15, at 11:15 am, and will pass through Olhão, Lagos and Ourique.

The municipal markets of Olhão, Fuzeta and Moncarapacho will be priority targets by the Municipal Civil Protection in this seventh edition of “A Terra Treme”, which is intended, once again, to sensitize citizens to the best way to act in case of earthquake.

In this way, the Municipality of Olhão, through its various spaces, promotes, on November 15, at 11:15 am, the exercise of the three gestures that save in the event of an earthquake: lower, protect and wait.

Furthermore, Lagos and Ourique will also be involved in the initiative. The municipality of Alentejo states that, "in addition to the population of school age, whose adhesion to the initiative has been enormous, it is important to successively broaden, year after year, the reflection and debate on the issue of seismic risk."

The Câmara de Lagos says that «this is an important matter, or if the Algarve were not a territory particularly sensitive to this risk. An awareness that is not new and that has been at the base of a lot of work developed and supported by the municipality».

Also this year, the Municipality, in partnership with other institutions, evoked the 50 Years of the Earthquake on February 28, 1969 and took advantage of this event to disseminate the results of academic and scientific studies produced in this area of knowledge.

This “A Terra Treme” initiative will take place in various parts of the country.
