Festival starts in Faro, on the 13th of September

Laia eo Voo da Imaginação will be presented in the six municipalities

The FOMe – Festival of Objects and Puppets and Other Foods of 2019 will give plenty of shows, in the municipalities of Albufeira, Faro, Loulé, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira, between 13 and 28 September.

This year's edition of the event, created and organized by ACTA – The Algarve Theater Company, was presented this Monday at the Cine-teatro of São Brás de Alportel, and there are news, from the outset in the number of presentations, a since there will be an offer of 57 events, including shows, workshops, gastronomic experiences and an exhibition.

Jeannine Trévidic, artistic director of the festival, explained that “the FOMe will pass through the streets and halls of six municipalities. There are 27 venues with street and room shows. There will be presentations in auditoriums, cafes, terraces, museums, cultural associations, theaters, libraries, inns, gardens and squares. We have more shows, more companies, more dining experiences and more venues».

In all, 18 Portuguese and foreign companies will be present. «The FOMe asserts itself as an international festival, but it still emphasizes Portuguese companies. There are eight Portuguese companies and artists present: Pedro Tochas, from Lisbon, the Lixoluxopoético project, from Viana do Castelo, SA Marionetas Teatro e Bonecos, from Alcobaça, Marionetas da Feira, from Aveiro, Radar 360, from Matosinhos, Jorge Cerqueira, from Sintra , Algarve Manipulators Club and Tó Quintas, from Faro», listed the artistic director.

Since FOMe is a spectacle of “other eating”, gastronomy once again assumes great importance at the event. Firstly, the puppet exhibition by Jorge Cerqueira, which will be on display at the Municipal Museum of Faro between the 5th of September and the 24th of November, it is inspired by the universe of gastronomy and will give rise to two experiences, on the 18th and 25th of September, created by Petisqueira 3 in Pipa. There will also be a gastronomic experience, starting from the show Stop, by the Hungarians of Mikrópodium, created by 8100 Café, in Loulé.

Also the show Janet, by the English company Helenandjohn, will give rise to two more gastronomic experiences, with creations by the chefs of the República do 7, from Olhão, and Tertúlia Algarvia, from Faro.

With respect to workshops, there will be two, for very different audiences. There will be training for professionals in the field and artists in traditional Turkish shadow theater, with the master Cengiz Ozek, at Teatro Lethes, in Faro, and there will be training for young musicians in the area of ​​percussion, «a concert for cups, saucers and teapots», held in Loulé, at the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova. The result of this training will be presented to the public, on the 14th and 15th of September, in the same place.

The opening and closing of the festival takes place in Faro, with «two great street shows», according to Jeannine Trévidic. «The opening will be at Largo do Carmo, on the 13th of September, with a poetic show of large-scale puppets, by the German company Dundu. The closing of the festival will be with Pedro Tochas, on the 28th of September at night, at Largo da Sé, with the traditional launch of the FOMe balloon».

The festival's artistic director emphasizes that, during the event, “the public will be able to observe the puppet in its most diverse aesthetic, technical and material forms, as well as experience with the artists the very unique look they have of their art and his puppets».

Jeannine Trévidic also added that "there are many shows without words, and of great poetry, and there are also shows presented in the artists' mother tongue, giving the public the opportunity to contact with other languages ​​and artistic languages, typical of other countries."

FOMe is «a very interesting and playful way of transmitting culture to the youngest and, through them, to their families. It is an “out of the box” way of presenting a highly diversified and very high quality cultural program in a way that people subscribe to», considered Marlene Guerreiro, vice-president of the São Brás de Alportel City Council.

All FOMe shows are free. However, room shows and gastronomic experiences require a reservation, which must be made at the ticket offices of the venues that host the initiatives.
