Fire broke out at 15:11 pm

Eight air vehicles are helping to fight a fire that has been raging since around 15 pm today in Chã da Casinha, in the municipality of Monchique.

Contacted by Sul Informação, the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Faro revealed that “three light helicopters and five heavy mediums” are currently in the air, that is, planes. 118 operators were also sent to the site, supported by 32 vehicles.

For now, the civil protection authorities are still evaluating the situation, with no details yet on what type of land the fire is raging on or on the number of fronts.

Second José Gonçalo, president of the Monchique Parish Council and of the local Volunteer Firefighters, “the fire started in an area close to the border between the parishes of Monchique and Marmelete, already close to São Teotónio, in the neighboring Alentejo municipality of Odemira”.

The CDOS also said that "all corporations in the Algarve" are involved in fighting this fire.
