João Marreiros launches “School Sports” in Portimão

This initiative is part of the Portimão European City of Sport program

The book “School Sports”, by João Marreiros, will be presented on May 30, at 17 pm, at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, in Portimão. The initiative is part of the Portimão – European City of Sport 00 program.

João Marreiros, associate professor in university education and European Doctor in Sport Performance by the Universidad de Extremadura, «supports the content of this original work by a wide range of authors, resulting from exhaustive study for six decades, both as a student and in professional activity. carried out in the educational system, with the purpose of spreading the accumulated knowledge», explains the Portimão Council.

«Profusively illustrated, the work intends to be an aid for those who teach, also addressing researchers and historians, with a view to contributing to the expansion of scientific knowledge about school sports», adds the municipality.

The publication, with the endorsement of Edições Cosmos, addresses this issue in terms of historical, legal and political framing, also focusing on the concepts and types of motivation at the level of sports practice.

João Marreiros was born in Lisbon in 1948 with a curriculum as a teacher and athlete, especially in the disciplines of long jump and triple-jump.

He was also an international athletics coach, judge and referee.

In addition to the author's presence, the presentation of the book “School Sports” will include the presence of Elsa Pereira, professor at the University of Algarve and specialized in sports, and councilwoman Teresa Mendes, responsible for Culture, Sports and Youth at Portimão City Council.
