On the 15th of May, the Municipality of Silves will honor the couples who celebrate, this year, their Golden Wedding Anniversary, that is, the 50th anniversary of the date on which they performed their marriage.
The day's program begins with a Eucharist at the Igreja Matriz in São Bartolomeu de Messines, at 10:15 am (Sunday Eucharist), during which the blessing of the alliances of these couples will be carried out.
Afterwards, there is a commemorative lunch at a local restaurant, with a ball with musical entertainment by Ana Easter, «providing couples and their families who want to join, a moment of celebration and sharing experiences», says Câmara de Silves.
A cake will also be broken to mark the birthday of all the couples present.
In this regard, Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, says that «we have to value these stories and life experiences and present these couples as an example of resilience and love, a love that made them bet everything on our land, on our council and to ensure that new generations could emerge».
The initiative also celebrates “Family Day”, a date defined by the United Nations (UN) in 1993.
