Elections in Castro Marim have 3 candidates and no independent

Coalition PSD/CDS-PP, PS and CDU advance. José Estevens does not go to votes

The presidency of the Chamber of Castro Marim will be disputed by three and, this time, without the independent candidate José Estevens. The Castro Marim Mais Humano coalition (PSD/CDS-PP), the PS and the CDU presented lists in the mid-term elections, in this municipality, scheduled for the 2nd of June.

The period of submission of lists to this ballot, which happens after all the elements of the municipal executive led by the social democrat Francisco Amaral have resigned in February, ended this Monday.

The big news, in relation to the Autárquicas 2017, is the absence of the independent candidacy Castro Marim Primeiro. In these elections, the PSD/CDS-PP coalition was the most voted, but did not get a majority in any of Organs municipal bodies.

In the Municipal Chamber, the executive led by Francisco Amaral had only two elements, the mayor and his deputy, Filomena Sintra, as well as the PS, the main opposition party, which had Célia Brito and Mário Dias as councilors. The fifth element was José Estevens, former president of the Chamber for the PSD who handed over his party card and ran as an independent candidate.

About a year and a half later, José Estevens does not apply again, largely due to the difficulty in finding funding for the campaign.

“That was essentially the problem. An election campaign has its costs and its energy expenditure. When it comes to an independent application, things get complicated, even at the level of the rules for obtaining state grants", he revealed to Sul Informação Jose Estevens.

In the case of independent movements, public funding "is only granted after the elections and according to the number of votes".

In this way, Castro Marim Primeiro does not go to the mid-term votes, but does not reject a candidacy in 2021. "We are going to seek to consolidate the movement, carry out the civic work that we want to reach far-reaching and bet on the next elections," said José Estevens.

Thus, the dispute, in June, will be three. And the lists of the different parties that presented candidacies are already known.

The Castro Marim Mais Humano Coalition once again has Francisco Amaral as its first element and candidate for mayor. Number 2 on the list is Filomena Sintra, followed by Victor Rosa, Dinis da Palma Faísca and Maria Suzana Valsassina.

The PS also does not change the candidate for mayor, who, as happened in 2017, will be Célia Brito. The second member of the list is Vítor Manuel Esteves, the president of the Castro Marim Parish Council, followed by Vera Martins, Leonel Brás and Domingos Vaz.

The CDU's candidate for the Chamber will be Nuno Osório. The list of communists is complete with Maria José Madeira, Manuel António, Maria da Conceição Caldeira, João Dias.
