Furnazinhas will have optical fiber

Installation of the fiber will allow the approximately one hundred inhabitants of this small Castro-Marinean town to have better access to telecommunications

The small village of Furnazinhas, in the parish of Odeleite, in Castro Marim, will have fiber optics. This service, which will be installed in the village's former primary school, “will now allow access to telecommunications, an old desire of this mountain village, with around 100 inhabitants”, revealed the Castro-Marinean Chamber.

The fiber optic installation work in Furnazinhas was contracted yesterday by the municipality. «In addition to the development and improvement of the living conditions of the resident population, the implementation of this initiative also represents an undisputed enhancement of the interior of the municipality of Castro Marim, working as an attractive factor for new residents and as a lever in the tourism sector», believes the Chamber of Castro Marim.

This initiative is a pilot action by the municipality of Castro Marim, which will be tested and evaluated so that it can then be replicated in other population centers in the interior of the municipality.

According to the mayor Francisco Amaral, "the much-desired decentralization of competences should also involve issues related to territorial planning, allowing municipalities to effectively combat the desertification of the interior, which undoubtedly facilitates construction, improve road access, materialize the supply of domestic water in these territories and promote access to telecommunications, and not through the programs, studies and observatories that we have seen developed».
