Culture and Nature are the protagonists that the Algarve takes to the Madrid Tourism Fair

One of the pretexts offered to Spanish travelers for a quick getaway to the region will be the 365 Algarve program

The Algarve returns this Wednesday, the 23rd, to the Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2019), in Spain, with a strong focus on cultural and nature tourism offer, two excellent reasons to visit the South of Portugal in any time of year.

For five days, one of the pretexts offered to Spanish travelers for a quick getaway to the region will be the 365 Algarve program, which complements the traditional offer of the tourist destination with more than 400 music, dance, theater, exhibitions and other events that make the city shine. An example of this is the Festival do Contraband (March 29th to 31st), centered on the historical and cultural legacy of smuggling on the banks of the Guadiana River in the 30s and 40s of the last century, which integrates the local heritage of the Algarve village of Alcoutim, stage of a period market, with customs and old crafts, street animations, historical recreations and where there will not be a lack of passage between Portugal and Spain over a floating pedestrian bridge.

In the same program, and in the blink of an eye on Holy Week holidays, Aljezur hosts A Grande Travessia (April 21), a contemporary circus show with funambulist Tatiana Mosio Bongonga, from Companhia Basinga (France), who risks walking on the wire 10 meters high, testing the concentration and endurance of the public, challenged to experience the risk, mystery and dangers of this circus discipline right there.

Showing Spanish travelers that the Algarve is a natural treasure that deserves to be discovered all year round, whether cycling, diving, surfing, horse and donkey riding or walking, is another Algarve tourism challenge at Fitur.

For this, several proposals for events in 2019 are presented: Algarve Bike Challenge (BTT stage race in March), Algarve Walking Season (walking festivals in March, April and November), Algarve Nature Week (outdoor experiences, in September), Bird Watching Festival and Algarve Nature Activities, in Sagres (festival of birdwatching, in October), ALUT – Algarviana Ultra Trail (event of trail running, in November).

In addition to these events, there are dozens of routes that allow you to discover the Algarve on foot or by bicycle, as part of the initiative Portuguese trails, which positions the region and the country as a destination bike and walk friendly.

The Algarve region participates in the fair with a destination module and nine business modules integrated in the exhibitor in Portugal, located in hall 4 – stand 4D02.

FITUR is increasingly asserting itself as a global meeting point for tourism professionals from all over the world and its 39th edition will take place from 23rd to 27th January.

In the previous edition of the fair, more than 10 exhibitors from 165 countries/regions, 140 professionals and 110 visitors from the general public took part, and 6800 business meetings were held.
