Adriana Freire Nogueira will be the next regional director of Culture in the Algarve

The new responsible for Culture in the Algarve region is specialized in Literature and Classical Culture

Adriana Freire Nogueira, assistant professor at the University of Algarve and director of the library of this academic institution, will be the next regional director of Culture in the Algarve, confirmed in statements to Sul Informação.

Adriana Nogueira will take up her duties on December 16, as a replacement, in a provisional appointment by the Ministry of Culture, which will soon open a competition, through CRESAP, to fill the position. The professor at the University of Algarve, specialized in Classical Studies, will later be one of the competitors.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Adriana Nogueira says she was “surprised” when she received the invitation from the Secretary of State for Culture. But he ended up accepting because he considered that «the position has a lot to do with me, with my interests, namely for everything that has to do with heritage», as well as with his training, «in theater, music and cinema». “I will certainly have to learn a lot, but I think I also have a lot to give,” he concluded.

Born in Bombarral, district of Leiria, having later studied at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon and completed her PhD in Literature and Classical Culture, Adriana Freire Nogueira has been living in the Algarve, in Olhão, for many years.

In recent times, she has been an assiduous collaborator in several projects of the Regional Management, being part of the Editing Committee of this body or being responsible for the monthly initiative Coffee with Letters, to which she had even been invited by Alexandra Gonçalves. On the other hand, the still regional director leaves office on December 15, by decision of the tutelage, as revealed in an exclusive interview with Sul Informação the Secretary of State for Culture.

In the cultural area, Adriana Nogueira has also been one of the programmers of FLO, the Book Fair of Olhão, which this year reached a level of great success, becoming almost a literary festival.

It also streamlined the lecture cycle «Amateurs in Situ», in the Roman Ruins of Milreu, an activity integrated and financed by DiVaM, the program of Dissemination and Promotion of Monuments in the Algarve, created by the still regional director of Culture.

Adriana Freire Nogueira, PhD in Literature and Classical Culture, is currently director of the University of Algarve Library and professor at the Department of Arts and Humanities at UAlg.

With a vast work published in the area of ​​classical studies, in which she also presents highly relevant translation works (such as Eutidemo and Theetetus, by Plato) and several conferences, in Portugal and abroad, Adriana Freire Nogueira is She is also a writer of children's books (such as “The Almost True Adventures of Hercules”, “The “True” Adventures of Hercules” and “The New Adventures of Hercules”) and was the author of a blog, Lady Socrates, in which he offered notes of classic texts as reflections on current affairs.

She says of herself that she is "an enthusiastic classicist of many other types of knowledge". His participation as resident chronicler of the supplement Cultura Sul do Postal do Algarve, as well as the Reading Clubs that he has been promoting, demonstrate his multifaceted character.
