Canoeing selection from Poland internship in Santa Clara-a-Velha

Polish coach says the dam has the perfect conditions for the improvement of the athletes' technique

The Polish national team of canoeing chose the Santa Clara-a-Velha water mirror, in the municipality of Odemira, to carry out the stage of preparation for the World Championship in canoeing and paracanoeing speed, which will take place in Montemor-o -Old, between the 22nd and 26th of August.

The team, made up of seven athletes and guided by Mariusz Slowinski and Ryszard Hoope, has been training at the Santa Clara Dam.

For the coach Mariusz Slowinski, the dam has excellent conditions for the practice of canoeing, as well as for receiving internships from the athletes.

According to the Polish coach, the standing water mirror has the perfect conditions for improving the athletes' technique at this time of year. He also stressed that he had found there an excellent place for athletes to remain focused exclusively on training and improving their performance.

Recognizing the potential of the water mirror for the practice of canoeing and other nautical sports, the Municipality of Odemira has been focusing on its qualification, in order to provide the space with infrastructure that allow for excellent conditions for local athletes, as well as to the teams that choose Santa Clara-a-Velha as their internship centre.

The access ramp has already been completed, while a line with a thousand meters on the water surface has also been marked, with the second planned to be marked soon.

In terms of tourism, the municipality has made municipal investments in the area surrounding the Santa Clara reservoir, such as the remodeling and modernization of the Tourism Office, the creation of a bathing area in the reservoir, which this year received the Blue Flag award, as well as support for the creation of pedestrian circuits within the scope of the Rota Vicentina.
