160 soldiers are supporting the fight against the fire that has been raging since Friday, August 3rd, in Monchique. 

The military is, in particular, "supporting the evacuation of populations, carrying out patrol actions in the interior of Monchique, carrying out actions of consolidation and active surveillance after fire in the interior of the mountain range and ensuring the opening of roads using heavy machinery engineering (tracking machines)'.

Of the total number of soldiers already mobilized to support the firefighting in Monchique, the commitment of the six military platoons (five Army and one Navy platoons) is maintained and the reinforcement of six heavy engineering detachments, with five tracking machines from the Army and one Air Force.

In addition to the specific actions that are underway in Monchique, there is also the logistical support of the Air Force for the operation of ANPC's air fire-fighting resources from the Beja Air Base (Air Base No. 11).

Of the total 160 soldiers engaged in Monchique, 136 are from the Army, 19 from the Navy and 5 from the Air Force.

40 Army soldiers are also engaged in actions of consolidation and active surveillance after the fire in Portalegre, and another four soldiers, also from the Army, in actions to reinforce surveillance in Castelo Branco.

As of today, 508 soldiers, all over the country, are committed to strengthening their support for the National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC).
