A group of Mexican journalists, who are in Portugal to report on Portuguese culture, as part of the Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara, visited, last Sunday, June 16, the Museum of Portimão, the Casa Museu João de Deus, in Messines, and Café Calcinha, in Loulé.

The objective of this visit to the Algarve was to get to know João de Deus, António Aleixo and Manuel Teixeira Gomes better, in a year in which Portugal is the guest country of this event, which is the most important Spanish-American book fair.

At dinner, Mexican journalists read poems by Nuno Júdice in Portuguese and Portuguese hosts read poems by Mexican poets Juan José Arreola and Jaime Sabines in Spanish.

The Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalara will have more than 40 Portuguese-speaking authors who will show their work, "in addition to various initiatives that will make known the culture, gastronomy, history and heritage of our country", explains the Chamber of Silves.

«The Municipality of Silves will certainly contact the General Directorate of Books, Archives and Libraries, which is coordinating the Portuguese presence at this event, so that we can also have a presence, as we would like to make it known in this great exhibition of authors João de Deus, the great Portuguese lyricist and pedagogue, born in São Bartolomeu de Messines, whose work remains alive», said Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, during her visit to Messines.
