Bitori's funaná feat Chando Graciosa (Cape Verde), the multi-sounding Tribali (Island of Malta) and the alternative fusion of Metá Metá (Brazil) are three more confirmations for the 15th MED Festival, which takes place from June 29th to June 1st. de Julho, in the Historic Center of Loulé.

After Sara Tavares, Bitori feat Chando Graciosa is another name from Cape Verde who will take the stage at MED this year.

Over the past five decades, these were two of the many artists who transformed funaná into a dancing phenomenon that leapt beyond Cape Verde's borders.

Funaná's biggest name, especially after the respected publisher Analog Africa resurrected its album “Bitori Nha Bibinha”, edited almost secretly in 1997, and reissued it in 2016 with the title “Legend of Funaná”, Bitori has a life dedicated to music. At his side in the recording of the 1997 album was the singer Chando Graciosa (who also plays iron).

The same Chando Graciosa who later emigrated to Holland – and who would have a hugely successful musical career – but who is now a faithful presence in his concerts and in the recording of Bitorio's new album. A work that continues to give expression to the traditional, raw, celebratory, syncretic funaná and, equally, a weapon of protest and peasant rebellion.

«With a surprising and enthusiastic performance at the presentation of the 14th MED Festival, in May 2017, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, this time the Tribali travel from the island of Malta to step on the Festival stage», says Câmara de Loulé.

This collective of contagious musicians bets on a language of fusion of musical genres (world music with dance, rock, reggae, ska and blues) and instrumentation «which has made a splash with the many fans and crowds that have welcomed them in countless festivals. throughout Europe and beyond”.

«Diversity, energy, surprise, experimentalism and party are the ingredients that Tribali travelers will bring to Loulé to ignite the world's sound followers, thus setting the best mood for the 2018 edition of MED».

From Brazil to Loulé, Metá Metá was created in 2008 and is formed by Juçara Marçal (vocals), Kiko Dinucci (composer and viola) and Thiago França (composer and saxcophone). Throughout their career, they released four studio albums: Metá metá (2011), Metal metal (2012), MM3 (2016) and Gira (2017), the soundtrack of Grupo Corpo's show. The 3 MM2016 album was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Rock or Alternative Album in Portuguese.

Tribal

Formed from the different experiences of its elements, Metá Metá «has become one of the most acclaimed names in Brazilian music in recent years – at least those outside the large market. The group from São Paulo mixes sounds of Brazilian and African music, with other influences, namely jazz and rock. The digital launch of “Metá Metá” bets on the integration between music and image and brings videos signed by guests».

The presentation of the full official poster of MED will take place next Saturday, May 26, at 21 pm, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, in a night that will feature a concert by Omiri.
