Eight “Tables” from the Algarve are among the 49 pre-finalists from all regions of Portugal, chosen from 182 entries submitted to the “7 Maravilhas à Mesa®” competition.

The eight finalists from the Algarve are «Loulé Tradition and Creativity at Table», by Loulé, «Mesa da Diet Mediterranean», by Tavira, «Mesa de Casa Velha», by Cacela Velha, Vila Real de Santo António, «Table by Lagoa do Algarve », from Lagoa, «Mesa de Maresias», from Vila do Bispo, «Mesa de Monchique», from Monchique, «Mesa de Silves: da Serra ao Mar», from Silves, and also the «Mesa do Mar – Albufeira e Olhos De Água”, from Albufeira.

From Minho to the Algarve, passing through Madeira and the Azores, the 49 pre-finalist tables gathered the consensus of a panel of 77 experts and the Scientific Council, standing out with the best in gastronomy, wines, olive oil and tourist itineraries from each region of Portugal.

«The idea of this edition was quite ambitious, as it forced us to merge gastronomy, wines and oils and tourist routes into an experience of the territory. Which also made the task of electing the pre-finalists difficult. But the truth is that very innovative proposals were brought together and that project the interest in discovering the country, which, in fact, constitutes the main objective of this initiative: the promotion of the great values of national identity», explains Luís Segadães, president of 7 Wonders®.

From the 22nd of July – when the galas begin – it is in the hands of the Portuguese to vote and elect the 7 Maravilhas à Mesa®.

The pre-finalists include such distinct heritages that range from the ex-libris of each region, to traditional snacks, typical dishes, wines, olive oils but also tourist itineraries that include historical, cultural and natural heritage, festivals, events and unique experiences, and from public and private entities.

«We believe that the diversity of heritage will further enhance popular participation, as it is in these themes that the citizen sees himself and where he expresses his pride in his region and in being Portuguese. The end result will be, for sure, an enno-gastronomic itinerary that is unique in our country», says the person responsible for the project.

As in previous editions, the galas where the 7 Maravilhas à Mesa® will be elected will be presented by the duo Catarina Furtado and José Carlos Malato and broadcast live on RTP, on primetime Sundays, from 22 July until the grand final , on September 16th.

In what is one of the most complete editions since 2007, the 7 Maravilhas à Mesa® is the seventh election held in Portugal, delivering a seal of guarantee to the honored Tables and promoting the regions of Portugal as a reference tourist destination.
