The Court of Judge of Commerce of Lagoa will open its doors on the 1st of September of this year. The equipment will work on the premises of the Center for Studies and Training of Lagoa (CEFLA) with an assigned judge and a team of eight or nine employees.

This was guaranteed by Assistant Secretary of State Helena Mesquita Ribeiro, who visited Lagoa yesterday, with the purpose of signing the collaboration protocol between the municipality and the Institute of Financial Management and Justice Equipment (IGFEJ) for the installation of what will be the first Court operating in the county.

The court, like the Sul Informação revealed first hand last September, will be spread over two floors in an area of 1.110 square meters, and will be in charge of 1.220 cases that transit the Court of Justice of Commerce of Olhão, and which entered the judicial system as of September 1, 2014.

This transfer will allow, according to the Assistant Secretary of State, to fill “a need” and fill “the most critical gap in the region”. Helena Mesquita Ribeiro admitted that “the processes are too many, there is a lack of space and there is no ratio between human resources and the amount of work” in the Court of Olhão.

“Given the size of the region, there was a need to have an answer in another location that would more closely serve a group of users. And Lagoa is an excellent place”, he said.

The secretary of state even used the words “gold on blue”, referring to the geographic location of this court, an opinion that was reiterated by the presiding judge of the District of Faro, Senior Manuel dos Reis Alves.

The official added that the legislative procedure for the second part of the adjustments will start within about 15 days and that, “as in normative terms these changes are only subject to Decree-Law, the legislative procedure is much easier. It only goes through a meeting with the Secretary of State in the Council of Ministers and then publication in the Diário da República”.

The Commercial Court of Lagoa was, for the president of the Chamber Francisco Martins, “an old ambition” and “a necessity”, now realized.

“The implementation of the Court of Judge of Commerce of Lagoa is something that makes us very proud, given the added importance it will bring to our municipality. But mainly because, with this important step, we will continue along the path that we traced, the path to better serve the population. We also started to get closer to the courts and what happens in them, always with the objective of providing a public service of greater proximity and quality”, added the mayor of Lagos.

Integrated in the Judicial Court of the District of Faro, will serve the Barlavento Algarvio councils and deal with matters related to business relations and insolvencies of companies and individuals.

Helena Ribeiro considered, therefore, this as “a remarkable day, deeply symbolic, because the municipalities must have a significant presence of the State and one of the most symbolic is the existence of a court”.

"These courts have a very large repercussion in what is the activity of our companies, which need qualified and adequate answers in terms of timings", he also said.

The event also counted, among other individuals, with the presence of Joaquim Carlos Rodrigues, from the Institute of Financial Management and Justice Equipment and the Director General of the Administration of Justice (DGAJ), Luis Borges Freitas.
