The Commercial Court of Lagoa, integrated in the Judicial Court of the District of Faro, will be created on the premises of the municipal building of CEFLA, in that city.

To this end, yesterday, at a Chamber meeting, the protocol between the Municipality of Lagoa and the Institute of Financial Management and Justice Equipment was approved, with a view to the installation of what will be the municipality's first court. The protocol will be signed shortly between the two entities.

Francisco Martins, president of the Chamber of Lagoa, revealed to the Sul Informação that the future court should come into operation in the next judicial year, in September 2018, as the facilities at CEFLA will now be subject to adaptation works, under the responsibility of the municipality.

According to what our newspaper found, a courtroom will be created with all current modern conditions, an attendance room and rooms for the judges. The creation of this new structure is part of the ongoing restructuring of the Judiciary Map, promoted by the current Minister of Justice, Francisca Van Dunen.

The mayor underlined that this protocol "continues the effort of the Municipality to bring to Lagoa structures relevant to the Republic's services, such as this one and all others that value the municipality."

Francisco Martins added that bringing the Court of Commerce to Lagoa, which will serve the municipalities of the Barlavento Algarvio, «was only possible due to the immediate availability for the concession of the space, its due remodeling and improvement of the building in order to provide it with all means necessary for its functioning'.

The future Commercial Court of Lagoa will be responsible for matters related to the insolvency of companies and individuals, as well as processes involving commercial relations, namely those relating to the Barlavento Algarvio region.

José Águas da Cruz, lawyer and president of the Municipal Assembly of Lagoa, commented: “many generations have struggled to have a court or at least a justice of the peace in our municipality. The court will already have and the court of peace may still arrive».
